We started out by sneezing about “judging a book by its cover.”

Today, we met the Merchant, the Clerk, the Lawyer, the Franklin, the Guild members, the Cook (and his sore), the Sailor, and the Doctor. We talked about fake people pretending to have money, popularity, nasty food, pirates, astorology, and the four humors (blook, phlegm, black bile, yellow biles). Gross.

We then had about 30 minutes to work on the cheat sheet. Hopefully, you are using your time wisely and almost done with the cheat sheet.

Humour Season Element Organ Qualities Ancient name Modern MBTI Ancient characteristics
Blood spring air liver warm & moist sanguine artisan SP courageous, hopeful, amorous
Yellow bile summer fire gall bladder warm & dry choleric idealist NF easily angered, bad tempered
Black bile autumn earth spleen cold & dry melancholic guardian SJ despondent, sleepless, irritable
Phlegm winter water brain/lungs cold & moist phlegmatic rational NT calm, unemotional

Happy Monday, you Son of  a Sea Cow! ARRGH!

We started today off by writing a response in Edmodo about where we would like to take a pilgrimage to. This is different than a vacation – be specific in your answer.

We then were introduced to the following pilgrims on our trip: the Squire, the Yeoman, the Prioress, the Monk, and the Friar.

We filled in the cheat sheet about those people and we good to go for the day.

PS – leave it to Riley to use Jersey Shore to help teach her lesson for the day. The Squire is all about t-shirt time and JTL (Joust-Tan-Laundry).

9/23/11

We started out today with Riley giving each person a random word. Some sample words: cousin, fear, peanut, goat, random, duck. You couldn’t choose your word, but you could swap with someone. Riley wrote about her cousin.

We then talked about the “encounter” (aka quiz) from yesterday and she reviewed her major points that we’d need to know to understand the story.

However, that “encounter” gathered attention. And not the good kind of attention. The English Navy is on the search for the pirate who got into that fight, and we aren’t a position to fight the entire Navy. It’s time we slink into obscurity and wait for the heat to die down. We ended up meeting a group of 29 people at the Tabard Inn who were going on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. This was the perfect opportunity for us to hide out with them and wait for the authorities to calm down.

The only thing is that since we are travelling with these people, we have to know who they are. It would be a dead giveaway that we didn’t belong with these people if we didn’t even know who they are!

As we meet these people, we will take down notes about them to help us out in our journey so that it will look like we know what we are talking about. We’re going to use The Pilgim Cheat Sheet in LMS.

We were introduced to the Knight today and we filled out the cheat sheet about him together.

September 22, 2011

Hey everybody today is thrusday, the day named after Thor, but not the point why I am writing. The point is to tell you what we are doing today.

Today we are puting our quilt’s together. You know the ones we have been working on that may sound easy but aren’t. Then we are making another quilt with our names and simple questions that Mrs. Riley gave us on the board. Then after that, if you have time to actually take it, we are taking a quiz. Yay that sounds not fun at all. But you have to do it anyway. Anyway I’m not gonna take up any of your time, so bye. If you read this I just wasted ten seconds of your life.

Isn’t anyone other than Lil’ Juan going to be the scribe? Holy Moly! I sure know a lot about this classroom, and I only just got back the room on Tuesday!

Anyway, we spent today working on the quilt squares to provide protection and comfort (?) when we return attack on the French ship that fired at us.

Yesterday we made the quilt patches and today, we read the material and wrote down our notes.

You will need a key word, a sentence (quote, summary, or paraphrase), and a picure. If you need help, Riley has key words for each section on an index card.

9/20/11

We finished The 13th Warrior today. Riley cried a bit in first block.

As our ship was coming to port in England, we were attacked by a French ship. What gives with this? Why did this happen?

We managed to sneak away and started to do a little recon work. We had two options: we could go ahead and face the French right away (take the quiz) or we could get some armor.

So far, everyone who faced the French (too the quiz) without the armor has failed. I’d suggest getting your armor first.

The armor is: A QUILT!

Don’t scoff, quilts are very protective. We got with a partner and started cutting and pasting the quilt pieces for the actual assignment.

There are ten parts to split up:

  • The introduction
  • Feudalisim
  • Women
  • Chivalry
  • New City Classes
  • Crusades
  • Beckett
  • Magna Carta
  • 100 Years War
  • Black Death

So, *why* did Riley dress up like a French person today?

9/19/11

Well, even though Beowulf is dead, Wiglaf is keeping his end of the bargain and is fixing our ship. It’ll take awhile, so while we are waiting, we are going to watch The 13th Warrior.

It’s a movie that is based on Beowulf and the novel Eaters of the Dead, which is based on real life account of Ahmad ibn Fadlān ibn al-Abbās ibn Rāšid ibn Hammād.

Pretty good movie, and Antonio Banderas is nice eye candy. 🙂

9/15/11

After we wrote the contract with Beowulf, we woke up early and went after the dragon. However, Riley made us roll a die to see if we chickened out and ran away. If you got a 10 on the roll, you stood there, petrified. If you got between a 9 and a 2, you ran away in fear.  But if you got a 1, you botched. You seriously failed the roll. If you botched, you were so scared that that as you ran away, you soiled your pants.

The best part about this was that in third block, RILEY BOTCHED! LOL!

After we cleaned ourselves off, Wiglaf talked to us. He said that even though we failed to keep our end of the contract, he’d give us a chance since we didn’t betray Beowulf. We have to memorialize Beowulf by writing an interview about him in the Rolling Stone magazine.

Check LMS for instructions. Today, we wrote the 20 questions and the introduction. Tomorrow, we will work some more. This will be due on Monday.
