We reviewed MY Peanut Butter Jelly Time pictures! I told you that if I expect YOU to do the assignment, I’ve done it myself. Remember, the more that you hear the information and the more ways that you see it presented, the more likely that you’ll actually LEARN it!

Then, we took a group quiz. You were supposed to work WITH your group to answer those questions. You can take this quiz as many times as you need to and it’s open *everything*. The only thing that I ask is that the first time you take the quiz, please abstain from looking up answers on the internet. Why? I want to see how well you can get the correct answers with the material that we did in class. Not only am I assessing you on how well you learned, I’m assessing the effectiveness of my teaching and the assignments. The last question is over your group work. I really do read these answers – they help me. You can totally scold me for not having taught the Old English/English/Latin bit before we tested. That was totally my fault. Bad Riley.

Lastely, we did a Quote Sort. I gave you a list of quotes about fate and free will.

fate.free willFirst, find a definition of free will and fatalism that makes sense to you. Put it in the chart. Then, read through the quotes and drag them to the column where you think it belongs. This isn’t a hard activity, but it makes your brain hurt from thinking. REMINDER: just because the quote uses the word FATE doesn’t mean it’s an examples of fatalism. Some of these don’t have a correct answer, so don’t freak out if you and a buddy from class think differently about a quote.

Riley as a CeltWe are moving quickly and assignments may not match up completely in BB since we are cramming two days into one – a few things have been skipped over, so make sure you keeping track of your grades in Gradespeed AND Blackboard!

The first thing we did today was take the Wergild quiz: You can find this in Beowulf: Peanut Butter Jelly Time: Wergild Quiz. It’s worth 30 points and it’s open note, open group, open internet, open OneNote, open poster! You can take it as many times as you want – the point of this is learning how to translate the textbook and the poster into test questions.

Our adventurers came back from their reconnaissance mission tired, but with much knowledge. We learned that there is an old, epic king who is very generous, noble, and honorable who might be willing to help rebuild The Revenge (that’s the name of the ship, remember?). We have to learn what EPIC is before we actually go meet him. So listen up!

To prepare, we watched the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny and wrote a list of five EPIC things that we saw.

Then, we went to Beowulf: Epic Hero and printed the Characteristics of an Epic to OneNote and took notes. You can get this from a neighbor.

We ended the day with Epic Dude. Make sure that you look in BB for the instructions and that you use complete sentences. I don’t need five sentences for each square: I need a total of five sentences.

Epic DudeHopefully, I’ll see everyone tomorrow! Boo for inclement weather days!

We started out class today meeting with our Peanut Butter Jelly Time members. We taught each other what are pictures were and what they were supposed to represent. We also did a gallery walk to check out the other posters that were done.

During the group teach, we wrote down important words on the Word Storm to use on the quiz and on the final.

Sadly, we got into a scuffle with a small child and ended up having to pay wergild for his demise. Wergild literally means man payment,  but we don’t have any money, we were given the chance to take this quiz to prove we respected their culture.

Then, we took a quiz with our group members, You can use each other as resources, you can use your picture notes, you can use your text, and you can even use the internet. Notice that the last question is worth six points while all of the others are worth only 1 point. Spend some time on that last question.

Today, we took our quiz with our partner and created the quilt.

Sadly, QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WERE ABSENT TODAY.

Look at poor Colin, saddened because his partner – AARON- is absent today. He failed because you were absent today.

You can take the quiz as many times as you need – just make sure that you LEARN the material rather than just trying to get a 100.

After the quiz was over, we made the quilt and worked on the name quilt patch:

Afterwards, we watched Terry Jones’ The Peasant. Let me know if you want to watch more of this series.

Pretty much, we just finished up our Quilts today and took a quiz with our partner. If you were absent yesterday, you just had to read all the sections by yourself, write down four nuggest for each section, and then take the quiz on your own.

Remember, we are now in a new “unit” – The Canterbury Tales. We are no longer Beowulf. If you still owe daily work from Beowulf, it will only be worth half credit.

We have completed a major writing assignment (Beo-Boast) and a major test grade (Metaphorical Response).

Make sure that you are at least Level 3: Cook on Monday!

Cap’n is really sad that no one is taking her up on her offer of extra credit. 🙁

Anyhoo, today we started out today with a sneeze about tests. It could be anything – a driving test, a TAKS test, or even a pregnancy test.

We then reviewed our posters ONE MORE TIME with our group, and then we did a Gallery Walk. One person stayed with the poster, and the rest of the group rotated to be taught the posters from the other groups.

Afterwards, we went back to our original groups to take a group test. We had to give wegild because SOMEONE in the class lost composure in the game. Our wergild was to show that we respected the culture of the Anglo-Saxons by taking a quiz.

Luckily, he accepted a class average. We were lucky!

September 22, 2011

Hey everybody today is thrusday, the day named after Thor, but not the point why I am writing. The point is to tell you what we are doing today.

Today we are puting our quilt’s together. You know the ones we have been working on that may sound easy but aren’t. Then we are making another quilt with our names and simple questions that Mrs. Riley gave us on the board. Then after that, if you have time to actually take it, we are taking a quiz. Yay that sounds not fun at all. But you have to do it anyway. Anyway I’m not gonna take up any of your time, so bye. If you read this I just wasted ten seconds of your life.
