Today, we took our quiz with our partner and created the quilt.

Sadly, QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WERE ABSENT TODAY.

Look at poor Colin, saddened because his partner – AARON- is absent today. He failed because you were absent today.

You can take the quiz as many times as you need – just make sure that you LEARN the material rather than just trying to get a 100.

After the quiz was over, we made the quilt and worked on the name quilt patch:

Afterwards, we watched Terry Jones’ The Peasant. Let me know if you want to watch more of this series.

IV – 9/20/2012

Today, we worked on our squares. For each topic, we listed four KEY WORDS, then explained what each key word meant in a SENTENCE, and then drew a PICTURE on the top flap.

Key Words and Sentences

Pictures on the outside

This is an activity where you need to focus on your work and make sure that you are staying task.

If you need help, Captain Riley has help cards for you. Just don’t skip reading the section, because then you won’t be able to explain what those words mean.

We watched a video in Riley’s class today! A VIDEO! The first one of the term! It aws about peasants in the Middle Ages. It was funny, but in a weird sort of way. It had a peasant fart on a noble! And they had to boil eveything they are back then that came out of the ground because they used human excrement (poop) as fertilizer. Yum.

We answered the questions over the video in LMS, and Riley expressly said that she wasn’t taking late work on this. It was today or never, because she didn’t want people to have a cheat fest.

Then, we spent the rest of the day working on the quilt. On the name patches, each partnered answered the following questions under the flap:

1. What did I find interesting?

2. What would I like to learn more about?

3. What do I still have questions over?

4. Anything else Riley needs to know? Suggestions for improvement? What worked well?

Pretty much, we just finished up our Quilts today and took a quiz with our partner. If you were absent yesterday, you just had to read all the sections by yourself, write down four nuggest for each section, and then take the quiz on your own.

Remember, we are now in a new “unit” – The Canterbury Tales. We are no longer Beowulf. If you still owe daily work from Beowulf, it will only be worth half credit.

We have completed a major writing assignment (Beo-Boast) and a major test grade (Metaphorical Response).

Make sure that you are at least Level 3: Cook on Monday!

Wiglaf followed through on Beowulf’s contract to help us rebuild our ship, and went above and beyond what we were expecting. We sailed happily for two weeks, when all of a sudden, we were greeted by a cannonball from a French galleon!

What the…?

Weren’t we friends with the French? We need to find out what happened to prompt this attack! (I think it’s because Raven was flirting with some guy who had a girlfriend.)

We partnered up (if you were absent, you are on your own, sorry!) and we read parts of The Middle Ages (found in the Canterbury Tales folder in LMS). Highlight the important sections, narrowing each selection down to the four most important words.

For each section, make a quilt patch. Under the flap, write the KEY WORD and an explanation of that KEY WORD. On the top flap, sketch a picture to represent it.

Pretty nifty, huh?

Check out the awesome pictures of the French quilts in the next post! 🙂

9/20/11

We finished The 13th Warrior today. Riley cried a bit in first block.

As our ship was coming to port in England, we were attacked by a French ship. What gives with this? Why did this happen?

We managed to sneak away and started to do a little recon work. We had two options: we could go ahead and face the French right away (take the quiz) or we could get some armor.

So far, everyone who faced the French (too the quiz) without the armor has failed. I’d suggest getting your armor first.

The armor is: A QUILT!

Don’t scoff, quilts are very protective. We got with a partner and started cutting and pasting the quilt pieces for the actual assignment.

There are ten parts to split up:

  • The introduction
  • Feudalisim
  • Women
  • Chivalry
  • New City Classes
  • Crusades
  • Beckett
  • Magna Carta
  • 100 Years War
  • Black Death

So, *why* did Riley dress up like a French person today?
