I’ve added new behaviors to Class Craft today! Hooray!

Also, progress reports came out today, so if you are still missing your Obituary, get that turned in ASAP! I’ve also moved a few things around so that we can finish writing our Carpe Diem: The Bucket List Essay tomorrow. You can thank me by turning your work in. 😉

First, we talked about the word pastoral and the related words naive, country, and provincial.

We then watched the opening scene from Beauty and the Beast and compared/contrasted it with Beauty and the Beat, by Todrick Hall. We also talked a little about caricatures and whether or not the video was racist.

We then read and annotate the Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph’s Reply.

Passionate Shepherd

I woo’d students with promises of Taco Bell, garage livin’, and chasing nutria at Meyer Park. No one took me up on the offer, but Brenden was tempted! Joe broke my grass skirt! Can you believe it!?!?!

Ahoy, landlubbers!

As promised, here are the written instructions for the Obituary Diorama.

First, go to Tagxedo and click create.

diorama1Before you do anything else, click Fonts.

Diorama Step 2From Fonts, Click USE LOCAL FONTS.

Diorama Step 3It should look something like this if you have done it correctly:

Diorama Step 4Exit out by hitting the X in the top right hand corner. You are now ready to add text.

Add text by hitting LOAD and then copying and pasting your ENTIRE obituary in the “Enter Text” location.

Diorama Step 5It will look really short. As long as you copied/pasted your entire text, it will be there. It’s just spread out horizontally. Make sure when you are done that you hit SUBMIT.

Diorama Step 6COLOR: This changes colors in your palette. If you don’t want all BLUES, then you’ll need to click on THEME.

THEME: This changes the theme of your colors. If you want, you can even create your own theme.

FONT: You can respin your fonts to find fonts that you like.

ORIENTATION and LAYOUT: This changes how the words appear on your word cloud.

ALL: This randomized all of those options.

SHAPE: This is where you can change the shape.

So this is what I made mine to look like:

Save as a 16 MP.

Then, download the Diorama template in the Obituary folder. Put your picture in the top section, and then answer the three questions in the bottom section. Make sure your name is on it, and make it pretty.

I will print these in color for you. 🙂

I do not expect these to be done by today, so I’m just making them due NEXT Friday, 11/15.

Riley gave us the entire class period to work with our partner to write the Partner Poem – There needs to be two poems with six stanzas each and a rhyme scheme of AABB, like The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph’s Reply.

Did you guys know that Riley hates Bruno Mars’ song Grenade? She does.

She compared it to the poem “The Passionate Shepherd” get the notes from a  classmate.

Then we read “The Nymph’s Reply” – get the notes from a classmate.

We then partnered up and started the Come Hither, Go Away Pre-Writing. When youa re done, show it to Riley so she can give you credit for drafting.

The sun has set for us with hard core carpe diem poems – we are moving on to Pastoral poetry – that’s the folder with the world on it. Carpe diem had the sun on the folder; pastoral poetry has the land because it takes places in an idealized countryside setting.

The poems can be saved to OneNote – they are the Pastoral poems file. First, we read The Passionate Shepherd and took notes. Get the notes from a good classmate. How romantic and naive! Note this poem has an AABB rhyme scheme, 6 stanzas, 4 lines per stanza, and 8 syllables per line.

Then we read the response poem: The Nymph’s Reply. This was the shut down – all the things the Shepherd offered the girl were only temporary. She also took the imagey in the first poem and twisted it, making it negative.

Then, we downloaded the the Seduction/Denial file – that’s our pre-writing. Fill out steps 1-4 and then start writing your OWN Seduction/Denial poems.

  • 2 poems.
  • 6 stanzas each.
  • rhyme scheme AABB

If you missed today (Melissa), you are stuck on your own. 🙁 Just get through the first two stanzas and it will get easier.
