Ms. Miller went over the Act 4 and 5 reading guide with you guys, and we took our quiz. The password is peach.

After the quiz, I went over the instructions for the Othello Project. A few notes:

  • There are four elements that I will be specifically teaching.
  • We will do all of the projects on paper, but we will be doing the metacognitive parts on the computer. That is what you will turn in to the dropbox in Blackboard.
  • This will be due on February 14th because I WUV YOU GUYS SO MUCH, but if you turn it all in early, you can get some extra credit.
  • I create written instructions and examples of everything, so yes – I HAVE DONE ALL OF THE PROJECTS, TOO. I do all of the work so that I know much time it should approximately take for you.
  • A lesson that I learned: When I wrote my metacognitive part for the pie chart, I did it over Hamlet. It was really hard. The reason is it was so hard is that I haven’t read Hamlet in about twenty years.  I know the basics, but not enough to feel comfortable discussing a pie chart of guilt. IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE STORY OF OTHELLO THIS IS GOING TO BE REALLY HARD FOR YOU. If you have just been copying answers from people and getting by because I am such an awesome teacher (lol!), you may struggle with the metacognitive elements.

We did our LAST cloze reading guide today! We didn’t get completely done with the movie so we can finish on Friday when we are working on our project this week.

Remember – this is due today. If you take it home without permission, the highest grade you can get is a 70.

If you redo a quiz, please fill out a grade change request on Blackboard. I don’t get notified automatically that your grade changed there, so I need to notification to change them manually.

Hooray for benchmarks!

     Wait, no.

Hooray for meetings!

     Wait, no.

Hooray for Friday! That’s more like it!

Today, we had a 20 questions MC district benchmark and I was in a meeting all day. I’m hoping to get the benchmarks scanned, scored, and entered into Skyward on Monday for you guys. Remember – it’s just a daily grade. If you have been taking care of business in class, then a low grade should affect your overall average that much.

I’ll see you guys on Monday!

Today, we finished the play by reading Act 5.2. Afterwards, we watched the Othello Rap and then played a Kahoot review. The review questions were from SparkNotes – you can take the quiz here if you want to review it on your own. The questions are a little more specific than I’m going to ask on the test – I like to ask questions that are skill based rather than basic recall.

Our test is on February 9th, so I’ll be doing short reviews most days so that you don’t forget details before then.

Tomorrow, we will be meeting in the auditorium for the play preview. This is where we will be sitting: down front in the middle rows J, H, and G!

Hello, my pretties! Today, we reviewed Act 3 before taking the quiz. Then, we read 4.1 and I realized just how dirty-minded teenagers are today!

We also talked about the difference between poisoning and strangulation and WHY Iago wanted that for Desdemona.

Tomorrow, we will finish up Act 4. Wednesday, we will read Act 5. I am combining the reading guide and quiz for 4 and 5, and we will review and take the quiz on Monday.

Today, we did the Othello Cloze review and watched Act 3 of the movie. Also, I am going to review a few of the questions that you tried to stump me with. Honestly, some of them were *really* good! I feel like I got stumped more than I expected.

I also showed some of my FAVORITE brains from last Friday!

This is the schedule for next week – we won’t be learning anything new on Thursday and Friday, so make sure that if you are absent you are keeping up with your work!

Monday Act 3 Quiz, Read Act 4
Tuesday Read Act 4
Wednesday Read Act 5
Thursday Play Preview
Friday Benchmark Test

We finished up reading Act 3 today. Two words we talked about: cuckold and circumstantial evidence.

Othello is worried that he is becoming a cuckold and complains about a headache (because he’s growing horns).

Iago gives Othello (fake) circumstantial evidence that Desdemona and Cassio are having an affair.

I ran around school today wearing reindeer horns and hugging a giant fish pillow. The things I do to help you guys remember the story!

Lastly, I gave each group an opportunity to ask me a few questions over Othello to try and stump me. So far, no one has been able to give me a question that I don’t know the answer to – which is different than not being ABLE to answer the question! 😉

We started out by reviewing the cloze questions from yesterday. I missed a LOT of people in Panther Den today – where were you all???

We took a short quiz over Act 2 – for the most part, you guys know the story and are doing great. If you are getting below 80’s on those quizzes, make sure you are doing what you need to do in order to learn the story and material. If you do the cloze activities (or copy the words down from the review), you should be able to pass the quizzes. You’ll also have material to review for the exam (on February 9th).

We also read 3.1 and 3.2 today (up to page 53). We will finish 3.2 and 3.3 tomorrow.
