2/20/13

Our reading today? 39-54. Infanticide and incest aren’t things you normally talk about in school – Welcome to British literature!

After we read, we chose an envelope for a MYSTERY ASSIGNMENT – you are creating either a WANTED POSTER or a HERO MONUMENT for King Arthur.

The instructions are on the sheet of paper, but here are a few significant notes for each assignment:

WANTED POSTER

You are going to write two chunks. On the front, you will write the wanted poster information (description, crimes, and reward). On the back, write your six sentence explanation of what he did and why he is wanted.

HERO MONUMENT

You are also going to write two chunks. It does not matter where this is. Paragraph 1 is why this would be a good monument. Paragraph 2 is your six sentence explanation of what he did any why he is a hero.

You may need to research more on King Arthur to complete this assignment – try Wikipedia or a summary of Le’ Morte de Arthur.

The first thing we did was create a list of qualities that we would want for our boss. Each person wrote one quality down on a post it note. Our perfect boss so far:

  • understanding
  • humorous
  • nice
  • responsible
  • patient
  • awesome
  • funny
  • caring
  • awesome
  • funny

Then, we read about King Arthur becoming king on pages 12-22.

Afterwards, we did the Pro/Con Foldable.

You can find the template in LMS. On the first page, give me a title, a picture, and your name. On the second page, give me five reasons why Arthur SHOULD be king, a title, and a picture. On Page three, a title, five reasons why Arthur should NOT be king, and a picture. On page four, give me a title, a picture, and paragraph with your opinion. When you write your paragraph, I am asking for three clauses:

  • a noun clause
  • an adjective clause
  • an adverb clause

We read the story about Morgan le Fay attempt to kill Arthur and steal the crown for herself – it was pages 29-40. Riley did not give us an additional assignment for the reading today: she let us finish up our research.

When you turn your sources in, remember – you need six annotated sources. That means that you need to take notes and/or highlight the important information in the article. If all you do is turn in a list of six links, you will only get half credit. If you sent your pages to OneNote, publish the page, and then send it to LMS. You can turn all six sources in one drop box posting.

We finished the quests from King Arthur’s wedding and read about Merlin’s death- pages 95-111.

Then, we did a circle foldable that Riley is calling the Round Table. Cut them out. The cover will be the one that looks like Pac-Man and the divided one is where you will write your sentences.

•Cover – Illustrate the three quests (make sure your name is on it)
•3 sentences summarizing The Wedding – 85-91
•3 sentences summarizing Gawain’s quest -91-95
•3 sentences summarizing Torre’s quest – 95-100
•3 sentences summarizing Pellinore’s quest – 100-105

Make sure you are still working on the research – that is due on Friday!

Ahoy, mateys!

We read 85-95 about Arthur’s wedding. After that, Riley gave the class instructions over the Arthurian interview. The example and the instructions are in LMS, but here are a few hints:

  • You have to research before you write the script.
  • You can use the questions provided to help you

Print your sources to OneNote (or wherever – just don’t waste paper) and I’d suggest highlighting the answers and other interesting information.

Once you get the information done, you will turn that information and start writing your script. Write this as if your character is on a talk show – you can choose the talk show and the host. Riley used Ellen DeGeneres as her host, but you can choose someone else.

Write the script with the host asking questions and making comments, and during the conversations, the facts that you researched will be be discussed.

Make sure you that show voice in your script – if you want an example, look at Riley’s example (Greek god) in LMS.

If you have questions, post away here!

We sneezed today (Bless You!) about qualities that we would want our boss to have.

Then, we read from pages 12-22. It didn’t take that long, and after we finished reading, we did the Pro/Con Foldable in LMS. There are four slides where you go over the reasons Arthur SHOULD be king (pros)  and reasons why Arthur should NOT be king (cons) and finally, the last slide is your opinion on whether Arthur should be king or not.
