IV – 11/14/2012

We read Psalm 23 today – make sure that you get the notes from another student.

Afterwards, we listened/read Gangsta’s Paradise and did the foldable – Folding Venn Diagram. You are are going to compare/contrast Psalm 23 with Gangsta’s Paradise. Make sure you have three differences and three similarities. Print, cut, and fold and turn in to Riley.

We read the Prodigal Son (copy/paste the definition of prodigal into your copy of the text). Get the notes from another classmate. We can easily see the difference between the Bible as Literature and theology with this story.

Riley then explained that tomorrow, we are writing a parable to explain/prove a maxim or a proverb. She has a list of proverbs to choose from, and you need to find a proverb that you like/find insightful, and explain it (in the drop box entitled Maxim for Modern Day Parable).

We sneezed today about Time and then Riley played “Time” by Pink Floyd. She said that lots of aspects about the song were intentional and deliberate to enhance the meaning of the song.

  • It takes about twenty seconds before we hear any noise.
  • It takes about 55 seconds before we hear any music.
  • It takes about 2 minutes 30 seconds before we hear any lyrics.
  • There is a solo that lasts about 1 minutes 30 seconds.

After we listened to the song, we took the “Timed” test. Don’t worry – it’t not actually timed. It is ten questions long and as long as you treat each question as if it an OER on a TAKS test, you’ll be fine.

Remember to:

  • embed your quotations
  • use correct mechanics
  • use good quotes
  • shows insight – good ideas and good thinking

Remember – Carpe Diem! Use your time in class wisely.

We looked at the pictures Death and the Devil Surprising Two Maidens and answered the questions about it. Make sure you use complete sentences and that you answer each question fully. Mrs. Holloway had deep thoughts about this pictures.h

Then, we listened to Don’t Fear the Reaper and answered the questions about that song. Mrs. Mahnke came by and jammed out with she 0 she is a fan of BOC.

Riley then gave out the instructions for the Obituary, which we would have time to write on Monday. Remember – be really old so that you can show how you “capre diem’ed” your life. The point of of an obituary is not about death – it’s about LIFE and what you did. You will be writing this in 3rd person.

If you need help, go look at the examples in LMS and on www.blogofdeath.com

We spent the rest of the day just working on daily assignments.
