4/15/15

We finished Dead Poet’s Society today. I cried in B1, B2, and I’m probably going to cry in B3 as well. We’ll see.

For B1 and B2, we had an impromptu Socratic Seminar, so if you participated, you might see a few extra credit points on your grade today. 🙂

Remember, we will be writing an analytical essay over this on Thursday, so please make sure that you know the details of this movie.

I also mentioned that the final exam schedule is wonky this term because of graduating senior finals.

So, here is the schedule for final exams:

June 2nd

  • Christian
  • Ahmed
  • Al
  • Mike
  • Maribel
  • Candy
  • Jazmyn
  • Glen
  • Chris

June 3rd

  • Porfirio
  • Areli
  • Albert
  • David
  • Erika
  • Oscar

June 4th

  • Marissa
  • Canaan
  • Malik

June 5th

  • Cameron
  • Christelyn
  • Lauren

June 6th

  • Ashley
  • Gaby

Of course, if you are exempt, you don’t need to worry about it! 🙂

The rest of the grades for Term 4 are up in Blackboard, so if you see an assignment that you aren’t familiar with, don’t freak out – we probably haven’t gotten to it yet.

4/14/14

dpsWe watched Dead Poet’s Society today. I am not making you do questions unless you want extra credit. You can get 10 points today just for watching the movie, and ten points tomorrow for watching the movie. If you were absent (Maribel and Marissa), if you do the questions, this can make up the ten points that you missed. You can either watch the movie on your own, or you can use the Wikipedia page or other resources to answer the questions.

There are all sorts of links in the Carpe Diem unit for you if you are interested. We will be writing an essay using this near the end of the week.

11/7/2013

Thursday! That means tomorrow is Friday! Only two more weeks until Thanksgiving break! I can handle that!

All grades (and the level chart) have been updated as of this morning. Please make sure that you are checking your Gradespeed grade against the Blackboard grade. I have been transferring grades by hand, so it’s very easy for me to make mistakes. If(when) you find a mistake, write down the mistake and the XP received on a Post-It note and leave it on the Parking Lot.All requests and concerns must be in writing, otherwise I won’t address them.

Powder Monkey

There should be *no* excuse for not having a passing grade on Grade Check Monday since you have had 2-3 days to work on your assignments.

Right now, Lil’ Juan is a Level 2 Powder Monkey. These are the crew members who are also Powder Monkeys!

  • Angelica
  • Kaela
  • Taylor
  • Landon
  • Jessica S.
  • Maira
  • Tori
  • Becca
  • Nathan
  • Imelda
  • Alma
  • Fernanda
  • Carol
  • LeAnne

I even have a FEW students who turned in their obituaries on time and actually have BEATEN Lil’ Juan! Check those people out on the Level Board! 😀

11/6/2013

As of 1:29 today, all grades are accurate and updated. If you are missing something, turn it in. If there is a MISTAKE, explain it on a post-it note and leave it in the Parking Lot. You must submit these things in writing to me.

As we near the end of our Carpe Diem unit, we are going to watch Dead Poet’s Society. This movie will last today and tomorrow, so make sure you use your time wisely. If you are working on assignments, make sure that you read the summary from Wikipedia because there will be final exam questions over this movie.

The “Timed” test and the Obituary will both be due tomorrow. That means if you turn either of these things in Friday, there will be points deducted from your score (whatever you score out of 150 points). Remember, that’s going to be -5 points each day late. So if you earn 130 points and turn the paper in 2 days late, that will be -10 points for a final grade of 120 points. Easy? Easy.

Your grades should be updated and accurate in BB after today. While you guys are working (and the movie is playing), I am transferring grades from BB to Gradespeed since my computer does not work at home. IT is working on the issue, so I hope it will be resolved soon. 🙂

10/30/13

What a horrible, rainy day! Eeek!

First block, make sure that you are keeping up with your work since we have been losing time in first block each day because Vistas Visits are cutting into our class time.

Gradespeed is not working yet, and we have no idea WHEN it will be available for us to use. So far, these are the grades in my class:

  • Character Sheet
  • Creative Coloring
  • Bucket List Pre-Writing
  • Bucket List
  • Lingerie: One Word
  • Carpe Diem Translation
  • To the Virgins Discussion Board (do 4 topics)

No, on to what we did in class today!

In the Carpe Diem section, click on the Seize the Day Learning Module. Read the story for Lingerie and follow the directions. Pretty easy.

We watched Mr. Keating creep his students out in a clip From Dead Poets Society and then we did the Carpe Diem Translation Tower.

You will read the four sentences, and then translate each sentence in your own thought. Add some clip art.

Make sure you have a clip art! You may need to resize the font. Then cut thusly:

And then fold/glue.

You will keep the foldable in your folder in case you take the final. For the grade, drop the PowerPoint off in the dropbox. If you just keep the foldable in your folder, I won’t be able to grade it.

In To The Virgins Discussion Board, we answered the required question: What Age is Best in Life” before we printed “To the Virgins” and “Coy Mistress” to OneNote.

We then read To The Virgins, To Make Much of Time. Make sure that you get the notes here:

If you want, ask me why I find this poem so offensive.

Lastly, we went back to the To The Virgins Discussion board to answer three more questions. YOUR CHOICE. Make sure you that you have four completed so you can get full credit.
