8/25/15 – A

Today is the day of my gallbladder surgery and my birthday! Boo!

Today, we worked in Beowulf >Values.

values

Defining Values is the blank copy, and Riley’s example is the one that I did that you can look at if you need an example. I have the envelopes with values in them – just stop by my room if you need them.

The first link for the Values quiz works – Just make sure that you click the link in BB – it won’t work if you try to open it from the Word document. The second link/quiz is (at this time) still blocked by KISD, so just skip that question.

Thank you for being my guinea pigs! As I said in class, one thing that my job requires me to do is to take these old stories about dead, white men and make them relevant for a multicultural, diverse, modern audience: my classroom!

One way I’ve been doing is by looking at the values of Beowulf, the values of the Anglo-Saxons, the values of our society, and our personal values.

So today, we looked at our own values. You can find the assignment in Beowulf>Values. It’s called defining Your Values, and there are ten parts. The one that you *might* need direct instruction on is Part 9. Also, you can’t do part 7 right now because it’s still blocked. 🙁

When you are done, drop it off in the drop box. 🙂

Second day of school! 1 down, 187 left to go! Unless you graduate sooner than that. Lucky.

Today, we started off Prioritizing Life Values. We used the cards that and put them order from MOST IMPORTANT to LEAST IMPORTANT. Then, we sneezed about it. If you weren’t here, there are digital instructions in Blackboard. You can find this under Beowulf > Epic.

We then took notes over what an epic is and specifically, what an Epic HERO is. We spent a lot of time talking about the VALUES of an EPIC HERO.

We then watched the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny and asked each one of you to ponder a specific questions as we watched:

  • Who are the epic people featured in the video?
  • What are the “valorous deeds” that have been accomplished?
  • What are some examples of the supernatural?

If you weren’t here for this, you can do this in Blackboard. I may have to play the video for you if you can’t get to You Tube on your phone.

Then, I gave you homework: the Vistas Interview. You have to go interview six people (three students not in a Riley class and three staff members) and ask them who their hero is or who is a celebrity that they admire. I don’t care if you do this online or on paper, as long as it’s turned in.

I will be absent for the NEXT THREE DAYS, so please do your work – it is going in the GRADEBOOK EACH DAY!
