1/23/14

Ahoy, mateys!

We started out the day trying on chain mail (while slackers finished their pictures). Once completed, you taught the rest of your group what your pictures meant (you will be taking a quiz tomorrow based on what they taught).

Then, we did a Gallery Walk. That means in YOUR group, ONE person stayed with the poster to teach the students from the other groups and the rest of the group wandered over to the OTHER groups to hear. There are a few reasons we did the Gallery Walk, even though a few people found it repetitive.

  1. It *is* repetitive – the more you hear it, the more likely you’ll remember it for the quiz.
  2. If you had a group member who didn’t do a very good job, this gives you opportunity to fill in the gaps from the other groups.

We did a Word Storm of important vocabulary words that will be used for an activity tomorrow (and you can use on the final exam).Word StormYou assessed which group had the best poster and which presented was the most effective (those were rewarded with extra XP and extra booty!)

And finally, we reviewed MY Peanut Butter Jelly Time pictures! I told you that if I expect YOU to do the assignment, I’ve done it myself.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time Riley

8/27/13 – A

The big things that we did today on teh second day of school is that we watched Wear Sunscreen – This can be found in the First Day folder in BB. Choose one piece of advice in that song/lecture, and sneeze about it. Write for about two minutes.

Then, we got attacked attacked by a dragon. RAWR! The dragon came in to attack Kristian, but he dexterously dodged the attack and jumped into the water. Some people were brave enough to attack the dragon, but it didn’t help. He was invulnerable to our weak attack and ending up eating poor Alma. Landon was so scared that he had an accident!

We were lost, so we did a little investigation to find out where we are and map out our location. In Beowulf, find the Unit called Anglo-Saxon Reconnaissance, the map will be the first link and have the instructions. It should look something like this:

Map of British Isles

And that’s pretty much it. We are stranded between these two islands. We don’t know anything about these people, so tomorrow, we are going to have to extend out recon mission and find out about the PEOPLE of these two islands and see if they can help us out.

IV – 8/30/2012

We went back to our Peanut Butter Jelly groups today and group taught the rest of our members what we learned.

We also did a Gallery Walk – one member of the group stayed with the poster and the other members rotated to hear the other group posters. While they were hearing, they completed a Word Storm with important words.

At the end of class, we compiled all the important vocabulary words together.

We also went out the map of the British Isles and talked about the United Kingdom, the two islands, and the five countries. I for Ireland!

Riley leveled us up yesterday! I’m now  Cabin Boy! Half the crew is still Landlubbers, so make sure that you are getting your work in. Once the ENTIRE crew gets to Level 1 (that’s ALL classes), we will be rewarded with booty!

The Cap’n started out by giving us each a page from Animalia and we had to do a Word Seach on our letter by finding all of the letters in our picture.

Then, with the letter that we were given, we wrote a sentence with AT LEAST ten words that start with your letter. For example, if you had the letter E, you have to use ten E words in your sentence. You can have words that start with other letters – you just need ten E words. Check the rubric to see how she is going to grade it.

Then, we listened to The Breaks and did a Magnet Card summary over caesuras.

WE also learned about kennings, which is a compound nickname. Go to the drop box and give a nickname to the five things there.

We also did a summary sentence over what we learned today: Why the bards talk funny. A hint: A, C, and K.

When you finish, play the Scrambled Dark Ages game – you will see these on the quiz tomorrow (and on the final exam in March)! Don’t worry – the quiz isn’t scrambled – it’s multiple choice! 🙂
