2/2/2015 – B

I have never had an entire class turn all of their obituaries in at the same time. Wow. I’m really impressed. 🙂

When doing the Tagexdo, make sure that you follow these instructions word for word, otherwise it you won’t be able to see the text. Also, I don’t want JUST the image – I want the FOLDABLE.

First, go to Tagxedo and click create.

diorama1

Before you do anything else, click Fonts.

Diorama Step 2

From Fonts, Click USE LOCAL FONTS.

Diorama Step 3

It should look something like this if you have done it correctly:

Diorama Step 4

Exit out by hitting the X in the top right hand corner. You are now ready to add text.

Add text by hitting LOAD and then copying and pasting your ENTIRE obituary in the “Enter Text” location.

Diorama Step 5

It will look really short. As long as you copied/pasted your entire text, it will be there. It’s just spread out horizontally. Make sure when you are done that you hit SUBMIT.

Diorama Step 6

COLOR: This changes colors in your palette. If you don’t want all BLUES, then you’ll need to click on THEME.

THEME: This changes the theme of your colors. If you want, you can even create your own theme.

FONT: You can respin your fonts to find fonts that you like.

ORIENTATION and LAYOUT: This changes how the words appear on your word cloud.

ALL: This randomized all of those options.

SHAPE: This is where you can change the shape.

So this is what I made mine to look like:

Save as a 16 MP.

Then, download the Diorama template in the Obituary folder. Put your picture in the top section, and then answer the three questions in the bottom section. Make sure your name is on it, and make it pretty.

Do not just turn the image in – I want the FOLDABLE.

I will print these in color for you. :)

This is how you cute and fold:

Then, we did a shortened version of the Carpe Diem Analysis. You can find this in Carpe Diem: Seize the Day: Carpe Diem Analysis. You only have to do two: Hay for the Horses and another one (poem or song) of your choice. Make sure you answer the two questions on the last slide. If you do more, you’ll get extra points. If you are shooting for the A, do more work! Earn it, baby!

Remember, your answers should look similar to my model.

2/2/2015 – A

Ahoy, mateys! Today, we started off class by filling out the What I’m Good At table. You can find this BB > Beowulf > Beo-Boast. Don’t worry about complete sentences for this prewriting.

boast prewritingThis is mine. You can write yours either in a Word document and turn that in, or you can just write your notes in the Comment section of the drop box.

The instructions are in Beo-Boast, along with one of Beowulf’s boasts, a boast that someone wrote about Donald Trump, and a boast that I wrote about myself. I also put in boasts from two former students: Amber and Mayra. Amber has a great vocabulary and wrote using antiquated language. She went above and beyond what I asked. Mayra had a great, original opening and used good vocabulary, but this might be a little more accessible to you.

I also showed you guys how I organized MY poem, and then I gave you a simple outline of what you could do if you were struggling with your boast.

Here is what I drew on the board for you –

 structures

Another idea that you can use instead of a threat is a promise – a promise to your future or your enemies.

The one in black is MY structure and the one in brown is a suggested one (follow this form to boast about what you overcame at your home campus, all the changes that you’ve made here at Vistas, and then what goals you have (graduation and/or career goals). This will be due at the end of the week.

We will have about 1/2 the day on Wednesday to work on it in class, and after that, you’ll be on your own.
