11/12/13

We are officially back in the classroom and starting a new unit today: Othello! In the Othello folder, please print the list of Othello words to One Note. These are all words that are used to describe the main character Othello. Your task: categorize them by POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, of NEUTRAL.

  • If the word is positive, highlight it PINK.
  • If the word is negative, highlight it BLUE.
  • If the word is neutral, highlight it YELLOW.

If you don’t know what a word means, LOOK IT UP. You have the computer right there – it takes maybe seven seconds to do so.

Afterwards, on a Post-It, write a 1-2 sentence prediction over what you think the character Othello will be like BASED on the words on the list!

A lot of those words were stereotypes and racist comments regarding a black man in Shakespeare’s day, and it was a great segue to talking about Italian stereotypes in Jersey Shore.

We watched the trailer for Season 4 and then got with a partner. Each team or group was given a different article to read about Jersey Shore. After you and your partner read the article, answer the following questions:

Jersey ShoreDo this on a separate sheet of paper and turn in with ALL names.

Lastly, you had time to work on the Obituary Diorama Foldable that we talked about last Friday. You can find the instructions here and the word cloud website here.

We start reading Othello tomorrow, so make sure that you keep up with all majors – you don’t want to go on Thanksgiving Break with ZEROS!

IV – 11/1/2012

Riley started out by giving us time to finish the Blog of Death. Go to the Blog of Death and find the obituary of one person who is a great example of Carpe Diem. Copy the obit, and paste it in the discussion board (in the Obituary folder) entitled “Who Seized the Day?”. Make sure you write at least one sentence explaining why that person was a good example of carpe diem.

We then read The Dash and Riley explained that this is the point of writing our own obituary – don’t focus on the dates, focus on the dash!

You should be able to see the rubric in LMS if you click on the Drop Box.

After your obit is written, copy/paste it in either Wordle or Tagexdo to create an awesome word cloud.

This was the only day that we will work on this class – if you did not get this done today (or weren’t here), you will have to work on this on your own time.

4/2/2012

Just like Riley said, she gave us the entire day to work on our obituary. Remember – seize the day and live a long, full life.

When youa re done with your obituary, head over to www.wordle.net and create a wordle of your obituary and send that to Riley to print in color.

Remember – if you need help getting started or gathering ideas, go look at www.blogofdeath.com – that might be a better place to generate ideas than the students ideas.
