8.25.14 – B

Welcome to Vistas! This first day of school was pretty uneventful, but I’m excited for all of my classes. It may take me a little bit to get all of your names, but just bear with me. Especially if I have already messed up your name.

Today, we only worked on the character sheet and did normal first day activities. If you missed today, this is the first grade in the gradebook. You can get a Character Sheet from me. You will need to fill in the following:

  • Name
  • Nature
  • Deameanor
  • the 4 R’s (Respect, Relationships, Responsibility, Rigor)

To fill in your Nature and Demeanor, go First Day Stuff in Blackboard. Find the list of Nature and Demeanor Archetypes. Read through them. Find one that is your TRUE SELF – your NATURE. This is the CORE of your being, it never changes. People may not always SEE it, but this is who you truly are.

You demeanor is the mask you wear. You will find there are lots of masks you wear – choose the one you most often wear at school.

For example, my nature is Architect and my demeanor is Jester.

The the four R’s, you have 10 dots to spread among the four categories, YOU CAN ONLY USE TEN DOTS – NO MORE. This may be confusing, so either ask me or ask a classmate if this isn’t making sense.

We then did the First Day survey – this can also be found in the First Day folder on Blackboard.

We were able to get the first part of Creative Coloring done (we drew the pictures), but we are going to have to finish the response tomorrow.

Please note that I am teaching an A and a B section at the same time, so don’t assume that all of these posts apply to you.

In first block, we were able to watch Wear Sunscreen and Sneeze about it, and we were also able to do the #’s Activity. We’ll try to do those things in Second Block tomorrow.

Please note that I am teaching an A and a B section at the same time, so don’t assume that all of these posts apply to you.

Today, we went through levels 6 and 7 of the Inferno.

Make sure that you understand what “Violence Against God, Art, and Nature” means. Art is not art like Mrs. Walton, and nature does not mean George Washington will be in this level for chopping down a cherry tree.

If you need to define “heretic” for level 6, then use the internet to figure that word out. You can do it!

Wow. Riley has some huge classes this year! Today was pretty easy – we started off by taking a survey in LMS – you can find it in the First Day folder – So You Wanna be  Pirate.

Then, she talked about how she is running her classroom as a roleplaying game – she won’t give “grades” – she’ll give experience points for you to level. She’s also going to give out what every pirate wants – BOOTY! Well, Booty Cards, that is. She let us know that as long as we do out work in class that we have nothing to fear – except her smelly feet, that is. Basically, her class is time management – use it wisely!

We did a character sheet – we talked about archetypes, nature and demeanor, and rated ourselves. You’ll need to print these bad boys from LMS, but they are there. Just make sure to print back and front.

After we did that, we did a Matching Game over five words that we learned today: Martyr, Curmudgeon, Architect, Conniver, and Deviant. If you weren’t here, Riley has a few copies left over, and you can also print this from LMS.

We didn’t get all of our work done today, so let’s make sure that we hustle tomorrow! Also, she’ll be looking for other people to take over Scribes to earn extra credit!

Arrr!
