Today was just more research. Since this is going to be a major grade, please make sure you answer the questions accordingly. What does that mean?

  1. You need to cite all sources.
  2. Your answers need to show depth and complexity, not just surface level answers.
  3. You should be able to create an infographic explaining the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, and HOW of the problem at the very least.
  4. This information comes from multiple sources – if you are only using ONE source, that’s a book report, not a research project.
  5. Make sure that you are actually using sources – I’m seeing a lot of people just answering the questions based on what they think they know. That’s not research.

Look at my example to see what I mean when I say depth.

Good luck to those students who are testing today! Take your time, take deep breaths, and relax – you got this! <3

I actually got to see some of you for the first time this week today! <3 <3 <3

We just worked some more on our research.

However, we do have a change with our major grades for this 6 weeks grading period:

We are not going to have a short answer essay test. Instead, your infographic will be split into two grades, a research grade and an infographic (with reflection) grade. This means LESS work for you, but I’ll be expecting higher quality.

If you can get your research turned in to me by Friday, I’ll look it over and give it back to you with suggestions for improvement for Monday. 🙂 Because I’m a real G like that.

We are starting our *real* full day of research today.

All research should be done on the document provided for you in Google Classroom: I AM NOT GRADING ANYTHING ON PAPER. If you have no yet gone to Google Classroom, you need to. This is where the assignment, instructions, and the model assignment can be found.

A few things I’ve noticed:

  • Make sure you are answering MY questions. You know, the ones that I provided for you in Google Classroom. Look at how *I* answered my research questions.
  • Go back and look at what comment(s) I left for you when you submitted your proposed topic. I may have told you that it’s too general and made a suggestion for you, or I may have just given you a warning. I have seen that human trafficking is a *very* general topic. So far, I think that topic is too broad to address adequately. I can help you narrow it down.
  • Use your footnotes! If you are answering the research questions and DON’T CITE YOUR SOURCES, you won’t be able to do the works cited.

We will still have a short answer essay test over satire next week – we don’t know the actual date just yet.
